2023 Reading Challenge: April
I’ve had fun this month and almost forgot to provide an update on my reads in April.
I didn’t meet my goal of reading 4 books in April as I read the second book well into May, but I did enjoy my picks for the month.
Let’s talk about them a bit…
The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo
I had heard so many good reviews about this book and it had been on my mental TBR since 2019. I read this in a couple of Grooves and loved that when I mentioned reading it, it’s a book well known and loved by a lot of people. I enjoyed it myself and highly recommend reading it.
PS: I used a quote from this book for my Twitter cover photo. 😜
Mastery by Robert Greene
I decided that I needed this book after listening to Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO episode where he had an interview with Robert Greene discussing his books, especially Seduction and 48 Laws of Power. When he mentioned he wrote 48 Laws of Power (this book is sitting on my shelf by the way), and he meant it not to be all about manipulation as we need more kind people in the world. I liked that he wrote Mastery so people could better understand how to properly apply those laws (I’m paraphrasing a lot here), without necessarily being manipulative for sport.
I particularly enjoyed the chapters that covered social intelligence, creativity and creating a sort of mysterious aura. The book was particularly dense for me and I highlighted a lot of pages and it’s definitely a book I find myself referring to a couple of times. I also loved how some of the concepts he discussed were also mentioned in Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by David Epstein and Ikigai.
Highly recommend! Both books are a 5/5! 💯
May is over already but I’ll keep going!
See you in the next one!
